It’s fun to work with repetitive patterns in street photography compositions especially when the person that you capture in the frame somehow matches the background. This photo was taken during a street photography workshop in Midtown Manhattan. We spent awhile hanging out and shooting here. There are so many methods and styles for capturing street photography and this is just one of the styles that we work with during a street photography workshop.
In street photography I work with the weather conditions whatever they are. Rain or shine. Of course, it’s fabulous to work with the afternoon light in the autumn. Learning to take advantage of all kinds of weather conditions and light, is something we always focus on in my street photography workshops. You don’t have to be a fair weather photographer.
Sometimes shooting ordinary things can be interesting. Shooting the obvious. There are 2 people and a garbage bin. They almost create a triangle. Also there’s the reflection as well. Some people who take my workshops and private tours say that I teach them how to see things.
Yes, if you keep your eyes open you will see some amazing people on the streets! Sometimes it just takes slowing down and observing what’s going on around you to see. We work on vision and photography in my workshops and tours as well.
If you take a workshop or a private photo tour with me you’ll quickly discover that I am obsessed with reflection. Whether they are puddles, windows or whatever, I always break for reflections. They are fun! And it’s still street photography.
Street photography should always be candid. Not posed. Without permission. It should also be taken with a wide angle lens so that you get a sense of place. Not just a portrait. I provide street photography workshops and private photo tours all year round.
There are so many styles and methods of shooting street photography and it isn’t necessary to see a person’s face. In this shot the movement is implied in the action of the subject. If you’d like to learn more about street photography you can check out my workshops and private tours. And yes, I provide gift certificates for the photographer in your life!
